The Book of Eve
Color Illustrations. Poetry
Did Eve create the Universe? The Book of Eve using a number of ancient religions argues that the creator of the universe was female. With the development of civilization, the male god became the dominant god, and maintains that the universe was created by a male deity. This evolution in religion represents Mother-right (the account of offspring and property belonging to the mother) and its defeat by Father-right. In Greek mythology this event is represented in the Orestes. Orestes kills his mother, but is forgiven by the gods because she killed her husband. In Babylonian mythology (the Enuma Elish), creation occurs in the murder and dismemberment of the goddess Tiamat by the god Marduk. In Judeo-Christian religion Eve, a symbol of older powerful goddesses, comes from Adam?s rib. The Book of Eve takes the familiar story of the Judeo-Christian concept of the creation of the universe, and returns it to the hands of the Goddess.
